EASSY ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR CLASS 10 & 12

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

“I'm fascinated by the idea that genetics is digital. A gene is a long sequence of coded letters, like computer information. Modern biology is becoming very much a branch of information technology.”

Information technology means the study or use of electronic equipment especially computers, for storing, analyzing and distributing information of all kinds.

“The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.”

Information technology is the need of the hour and its significance will increase the more in future. It has made our access to knowledge easier. It has become part and parcel of the modern world. In Pakistan, information technology was introduced on a limited scale, but soon it became the need of everybody. Now almost every literate person, student, scholar, businessman, doctor and government official is enjoying the benefits of information technology.

“If you thought the advent of the Internet, the spread of cheap and efficient information technology, and the growing fragmentation of the consumer market were all going to help smaller companies thrive at the expense of the slow-moving giants of the Fortune 500, apparently you were wrong.”

Today’s world is changing fast and shaping anew. Old trends are giving way to the new ones. Information technology has brought a revolution in the world. Mysteries are being resolved and puzzles are being solved with the help of information technology. People are becoming more and more aware of the world they live in. There is more enlightment for people now than it was in the past.

“Jobs offshoring began with manufacturing, but the rise of the high-speed Internet made it possible to move offshore tradable professional skills, such as software engineering, information technology, various forms of engineering, architecture, accounting, and even the medical reading of MRIs and CT-Scans.”

Information technology is now the order of the day. Latest technology are being applied to get the maximum benefits from it. Now it is the approach af all and sundry in Pakistan. We have realized that if we want to keep pace with the fast changing world, information technology is the right area for us to progress. Now information technology about anything is within our reach. It has opened up a new world to us.

“Today, no one would dispute that information technology has become the backbone of commerce. It underpins the operations of individual companies, ties together far-flung supply chains, and, increasingly, links businesses to the customers they serve. Hardly a dollar or a euro changes hands anymore without the aid of computer systems.”

Internet has increased new opportunities to government, business, and education. Government uses internet for internal communication and the distribution of information. Business offers goods and services to customers. Many people use internet for shopping, paying, bills and online banking. Educational institutions use the Internet for research purposes. They also deliver courses to students at remote areas.

“You look at marketing: everything that's happening in marketing is digitized. Everything that's happening in finance is digitized. So pretty much every industry, every function in every industry, has a huge element that's driven by information technology. It's no longer discrete.”

Apart from its negative uses, we can safely say that the future of information technology is very bright in Pakistan. It is doing wonders to solve problems like disease, poverty, backwardness and lawlessness. It will help our students to know about what has been unknown for a long time. It will improve our image in the community of the world. It will show the world that we are not a backward nationand we rightly deserve to be called a moderate and progressive nation.

“Information technology is a formidable enabler of freedoms. For example, it lowers barriers to freedom of expression and allows people to get a better grasp of their lives. It should not be used to reduce the freedom of people.”

The government of Pakistan is giving more and more incentives to encourage people in this field. It has tried to introduce it even in the small cities and villages. A sufficient portion of budget has been specified for it. So, we can say that information technology is among the top priorities of the government. Shakespeare once right said, “Nothing is good or bad; only thinking makes it so.”

“There was a time in the 1930s when magazine writers could actually make a good living. 'The Saturday Evening Post' and 'Collier's' both had three stories in each issue. These were usually entertaining, and people really went for them. But then television came along, and now of course, information technology... the new way of killing time.”

A variety of national and international studies indicate that the broad-based deployment of information technology can have a substantial impact on our nation's economic productivity and growth as well as the educational and social success of our citizens. Developments in information technology and globalised media mean that the most powerful military in the history of the world can lose a war, not on the battlefield of dust and blood, but on the battlefield of world opinion.

“Rural technology is moving from kind of the back office to where everything, every company - sales, marketing, customer acquisition, new product development, media - all industries are becoming technology industries. And it's not information technology: it's business technology.”

Therefore, we hope that the positive uses of information technology will bring in progress and prosperity in our country. It can be a messiah for the salvation of a nation from backwardness and ignorance. It can lead the people from the junk piles of ignorance to the highway of peace, progress and prosperity.

“The spread of information technology and the long-term decline in the cost of computing power have created opportunities that simply did not exist before. Airbnb, for example, could not have existed before the Internet.”
